Adopting a NNEDR Dog

Thank you for your interest in a rescued dog. There are thousands of great dogs waiting for forever homes in shelters and rescues across the country. Sadly many of them will never find a family of their own. We appreciate your willingness to go through this process and your patience as we complete the steps necessary to make the very best match for each of our rescued dogs. The dog you adopt from NNEDR will make room in a foster home for a dog on death row in a shelter, so by adopting a dog you are saving a life, and that, is a great thing.

We are moving away from the typical application process, to something we hope is more personal and let's us get to know potential adopters better in the beginning stages of our matching process. Please send us a detailed email. Tell us as much as you are comfortable sharing about yourself, your family and your lifestyle. Tell us why you think this particular dog would be a good match for you. Do you have breed experience? Have you always loved this breed? Have you researched what kind of dog would be a good match for you in terms of size, energy level and disposition? What is your activity level like? Do you have experience with obedience training? Would you take a puppy to training classes etc. We will still check a vet and two personal references so please include complete information (names and phone numbers) so that we can contact these people easily. Also did you know many vets now require their clients to give consent before they will release information to a rescue or humane organization? Please call your vet and ask them to put a release in your file.
Our standard adoption fee is $350 but can vary from dog to dog based on their expenses prior to adoption. Some of those expenses include, boarding, health care, and accommodations of special needs and cost of transport.

We base all adoption decisions on the home we feel will be best for the dog. We do not adopt to people under 21 years of age, and preference is often given to homeowners or people with extended rental history.

We do not have a physical location such as a shelter. We are a network of foster homes. All dog introductions will be made by appointment after your application has been approved. We are a volunteer run organization, with families and full time jobs. Once you submit your application please be patient.

We do our very best to check applications and respond to people as quickly as we can. Often we are very busy and it may take us a few days to respond. Our Petfinder website is updated daily. If you see a dog listed under Adoptable Dogs assume it is available for adoption; if you are interested in learning more about that dog the next step is to send us an email as outlined above.
